  • Classmate for 2014

    Hi
our team has a classmate that is lost.
We would like to purchase another classmate for the coming year, we would like to get the most up to date classmate since we are going to be purchasing it. Will the 2014 KOP have the same classmate as previous year E12, or is there going to be a different classmate.
We want to get a classmate due the issues in flashing the Crio's, the school laptops have a block on certain features of networking that it is preventing flashing.

we have also lost the Classmate image USB, can we use any USB flash drive to download the zip and then Flash the image on the classmate which is on the resources page, or is the FRC Flash drive specific to the classmates? if so how to we get one for the needed or new classmate?

    Re: Classmate for 2014

The Classmates in the 2014 Rookie Kickoff Kit will be an E12 classmate similar to 2013.

Both the 2013 version and the 2014 version can be obtained via FIRST Choice.

Most USB Keys can be used to create an image key. Detailed instructions for 2014 will be posted soon.

    Good luck!

      Re: Classmate for 2014

I talked with CLT and they are offering a E14 classmate for FIRST and they said that it would work with modifications to the image.
is there a way to modify the image to work on a E14 classmate, if so how?

Also if we lost the USB key, do we need another USB key if so how do we get one?
if the USB key is not needed, will a standard USB flash drive work with the provided drivers and downloads provided by intel and First?

        Re: Classmate for 2014

We are currently working with CTL to finalize FRC support for the E14 Classmate for the 2014 season. We do not recommend attempting to image an E14 Classmate with a E12 image.

Imaging a Classmate requires an 8GB or larger USB flash drive which you are willing to wipe clean to load the image (this does not need to be Rookie Image key provided in your rookie KOP). Instructions from last season can be found here: http://wpilib.screenstepslive.com/s/...image-download

That page will be updated with 2014 instructions close to Kickoff.

Will there be an updated image for the E09 Classmate? We had trouble with ours, and I tried reinstalling it with the 2013 E09 image, but ran into the Windows activation problem everyone else has been having.

                Re: Classmate for 2014

I pulled down the E09 driver station archive, E09_DRV_2014_161213.7z, from Intel's site. Unfortunately, it wasn't tested before Intel released it. Inside that archive is an image file called E09_DRV_2014_161213.wim. But the RestoreDS.cmd script that performs the reinstall doesn't call that file out. It calls out E09_DRV_2014_111113.wim, which is not present in the archive.

Changing the cmd script to use the correct file fixes the problem.

Aaaand, Windows being Windows, the attempt to activate it after installation fails with error code 0x8007232B, "DNS name does not exist".

Hi all, doing an image on the E12 net book with the DEV version of the image. As usual, Windows does not want to activate (Error code 0xc004f074 Software Licensing Service reported that the computer could not be activated. No Key Management Service (KMS) could be contacted.")

But yet I am connected to the internet and can reach webpages, netbeans updates and the like.

                        Ideas?

Key Management Service? That's odd... KMS servers are not supposed to be made available over the public internet. For far-flung activations like what we need to do with our Classmates, the MAK (Multiple Application Key) method, through which the PCs contact Microsoft servers for activation, has to be used. Something isn't right there.

(KMS is something you would deploy internally on a corporate or school district network.)

We've posted a procedure which should resolve the Windows 7 activation issues. More details are available in this thread.
