    Re: E09 Image

So we have been trying both method 1 and method 2 listed above for the last 2 days and all we get is "A disk read error occurred".

Is there anything else we can try? Are there MD5 sums of the files that are supposed to be on the drive so I can tell if one of those is corrupt.

Unfortunately we are running out of time (yeah - should have done this update a long time ago). So - is there a team in the Minneapolis area that we could drive to and borrow their flash drive long enough to update our classmate?

At which point in the process to you receive the error message?

We get the read error as soon as the classmate tries to boot off of the USB. It takes only a few seconds for that message to come up.

          Re: E09 Image

It sounds like you are using the USB stick that came with the KOP, is that correct?

So after you run through the process with RMprepUSB, then try to boot off the USB stick you get this error? Can you read the USB stick after the RMprepUSB process is complete?

You may want to try the RMprepUSB process with a different 8GB USB stick. Also note that it's not critical to reimage the Classmate. You can manually install/uninstall the software necessary for 2012. The proceed is outlined in this document.

            Re: E09 Image

Thanks Matt - yes, I was trying to reuse the USB stick that came in the KOP. (I have a few 4G sticks laying around but no 8G).

Yes - I was able to read the stick after using RMprepUSB.

I did finally solve the problem. I got back to my house (and a real operating system <grin> ) there I was able to use gparted. It showed the boot flag as set, but I cleared it and reset the boot flag. After that I was able to boot off the USB stick and update the classmate.

So - apparently RMprepUSB doesn't do everything quite right. Funny I had to use Linux to get Windows to boot.
