  • Wire color convention and CAN connection from PDB to cRio

Looking at the new cRio the wiring from the PDB to the cRio on the CAN connection does meet the wiring convention + (pos.) red, brown, white, yellow, black with white stripe) - everything is good. The - (neg.) however does not meet the convention GREEN instead of black or blue. Will the wiring rules be changed or should we change the GREEN wire to Black or Blue to meet the convention?

Re: Wire color convention and CAN connection from PDB to cRio

This is not the place to get official clarifications of the rule. That is Game Q/A: http://www.usfirst.org/roboticsprogr...ated-documents. My personal, unofficial, interpretation is that green (or any color) is ok for CAN wires. R40 states:

All non-SIGNAL LEVEL wiring with a constant polarity (i.e., except for outputs of relay modules, motor controllers, or sensors)
shall be color-coded along their entire length (from the manufacturer) as follows:
    A.
Red, yellow, white, brown, or black-with-stripe on the positive (e.g. +24VDC, +12VDC, +5VDC, etc.) connections
    B.
Black or blue for the common or negative side (-) of the connections.
The box under R38 defines SIGNAL LEVEL wires to include CAN wires. R40 only applies to non-SIGNAL Level wires.
