  • 5th Gear updated to 1.1

The 5th Gear FIRST Robotics Simulation has been updated to version 1.1 here: http://thinktank.wpi.edu/article/141

You will need to uninstall any previous version of 5th Gear before installing this version.

There have been a number of changes since the initial version released at the end of January:

    Major Features:
(Feature) Reimplemented replays. Every match is recorded, and can be played back from the "Play Replay" menu
(Feature) Implemented a First Person camera mode (makes it easier to pick up balls and shoot at trailers).
(Feature) Allow server to use the freefly and overview camera modes.
(Feature) Configuration file for exhibition modes (to replace command line options). Settings are stored from run to run.
(Feature) Auto-targetting for Mortar - It will aim at trailers in front of it between 3 and 12 feet away.
(Feature) Implementation of a Tank Drive option.
(Feature) Player can choose what drive style to use (Arcade or Tank)
(Feature) Field improvement: Field model was swapped out with one that is more accurate and up to the Lunacy game description specifications. This field model also improves bot visibility.

    Other Features:
(Feature) Implemented a list selection menu, specifically for listing replays.
(Feature) Changed the credits background to black (the blue was bugging me).
(Feature) Menu options to change the game configuration file (settings are auto-saved every time a game mode is started).
(Feature) Allow user to use Directional Pad (DPad) to navigate menu options
(Feature) Adjust star implementation for Lunacy (how each robot is scored)
(Feature) Added speed boost - When a robot can't move for a few seconds when attempting to move at full speed, the robot gets a speed boost
(Feature) Added trigger controls to pick up and shoot lunacy balls (left and right triggers respectively)

    Bug fixes:
(Bug fix) Bots were moving before the game started.
    (Bug fix) Fixed Lunacy lighting.
(Bug fix) Clients see the initial countdown as well as the server.
(Bug fix) Balls that go in the trailer and are never scored.
(Bug fix) Fixed selection menu item arrow placement
(Bug fix) Players picking up balls out of trailers
(Bug fix) Robots picking up balls out of trailers
(Bug fix) Callsigns showing up when facing away from the source
(Bug fix) Moon rock prompt now only shows up when a moon rock is within range
(Bug fix) Made sure super cells can't be called until the last 20 seconds.
(Bug fix) Fixed weight for empty and super cells.
(Bug fix) Crash related to calling for Super cells.

    Tweaks:
(Tweak) Reduced friction a bit to make bots slide to a halt instead of appearing to brake (bad particularly for Lunacy).
(Tweak) Adjusted the offset and height of the mortar's shots
(Tweak) Adjusted Overdrive and Lunacy robot parameters for better handling and playability
(Tweak) Replaced Live Cell text with Super Cell and Dead Cell with Empty Cell
(Tweak) Improved Hopper/Siege Tower shooting capability.

    Known issues:
    * Mortar slows down after picking up balls sometimes
    * One end of the field has incorrect color markings for the corner stations (the text is correct)

It says "2.Download the Fifth Gear 2009 zip folder from this site." Where on the site is it? I can't find it in the search.

On the right side of http://thinktank.wpi.edu/article/141 near the top, look at the Attached Assets section. #2 refers to the "Simulation Software" download link.
