  • 5th Gear Download & Installation

The 5th Gear Lunacy and Overdrive match simulator is now available for download here:
    http://thinktank.wpi.edu/article/141

The main trouble people have initially is that the .NET portion of the installer takes a long time to work (if it does at all). The best way to get around this is to install .NET 3.5 and its Service Pack 1 before running the 5th Gear installer.

    .NET 3.5 SP1 is available here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

The other thing to keep in mind is that right now, you need 2 running instances of the application to drive one robot on the field, a client and a server (which can both be run on the same PC). This application was designed with a LAN setup of 6 robots on the field in mind.

I know I shouldn't whine about it here, but I'm not able to download the .NET 3.5 fix/update from Microsoft download center. :S.

Will try to find an alternative link to download from.

Diffrent Problem on diffrent computer (this probablly means that the computer I tried to install 5th gear previously need's to be reconfigured so it can install .net 3.5 and XNA (it's a school computer)) :

This computer has .NET 3.5 and XNA installed, but when installing 5th Gear, the setup gives an error saying that ...\EULA\en/eula.txt
is not a vaild Win32 Application..

Hmm, that's odd. I'd recommend creating a dummy .txt file and making sure it opens up in notepad or wordpad. Beyond that, I'm stumped.

I really want to try this program out, but the link on http://thinktank.wpi.edu/article/141 seems to be dead. I get "The requested URL /resources/263/5thGear2009v1_0.zip was not found on this server."

Is there something I'm doing wrong, like not seeing a different link?

It does appear to be down. We're looking into it.

Take a look at your dxdiag. To do that, go to Start->Run... and type in dxdiag. What video card do you have (Display tab)? It might be that your card doesn't support Shader 2, the minimum. If that's the case, the only option is to get a newer video card, or find a different computer to use.
