  • Coach needed for new team in McKinney & Allen Texas

    Hi
I'm new to this forum so please bare with me if I understand incorrectly.
We have a new group starting but needs a coach, to teach and mentor. Where I can find great coach with teaching and mentor experience, is this forum great sources ?

    Thanks!

Please get in touch with Marisa Salomon, and ask for someone to mentor your team. That is how I got started many years ago. She is the FIRST LEGO League Challange Program Delivery Partner, North Region. Alternatively, you can try Joe Varnell, FIRST Senior Mentor, North Region. I know Joe mainly for working with FRC teams. Unfortunately, the FIRST in Texas website does not give the contact details for the various individuals so you will have to go through the generic "Contact Us" webpage. You can also try contacting FIRST HQ in New Hampshire. The people there will answer the phone and find the right person to help you.

The "FLL Challenge:Share and Learn" facebook page currently has more people asking and answering questions.

Many, many coaches have started where you are and learned what was needed along the way. One of the Core Values of this program is that "we learn together".

The following websites were created by the same people and have very good curriculum aimed at helping teach team members how to effectively use and program the EV3 and Spike Prime platforms. They are designed such that the students can work through them at their own pace.

One of the most effective methods of teaching that many successful coaches use is to ask the students "how would you find the answer?" and "how would you prove you have the right answer?" It builds the ability in the students to think for themselves and to take the initiative to explore to find the answers they need.

Best of luck and enjoy the journey!

      Hi Phil,
Thanks for your reply. I emailed FLL on 3/17 and also try to connect to Marisa, Joe, but haven't been able to get responses. Is there other way I can connect to them ?

      Thanks again for the help!

You can try calling FIRST HQ in New Hampshire. You will have to navigate through the system by choosing options but the people answering the phones were actually able to help or connect me to the right person every time I have called. In the past, they gave me the contact details for our local PDP for FLL and later for FRC. They even connected me with someone in their IT department to fix some problem with my FIRST account where some feature wasn't working properly.
