  • New Team Questions

I am completely new to fll and coaching so I have a few questions to ask. I know a child that is thinking of helping me coach the team. He is 16 so he is much too old to do FLL himself but he has many years of experience with robotics and FLL under his belt. I was originally going to have him be a mentor on the team but as I was registering the team, I found that mentors must be over 18 years of age. How should I go about proceeding with this? Is there some way that we could list him as a volunteer of some sort or maybe have him just say that he is 18 when he is creating an account?

Get yourself a second coach and use the 16 year old as an unofficial mentor. At our meetings, we always have siblings, etc wandering through and looking at the robots. I dont see him as being any different as long as 2 coaches are there.

You need two adult coaches over 18 for every team. But your 16 year old can be officially added as a Youth Mentor to a team. My boys coached a team in 2017. They could not be listed as coaches as they were underage. But they were added to the official team roster as Youth Mentors.
